US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a truce in the energy sector as part of their ongoing war, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had been unaware of the ceasefire announcement when it was issued.

Trump announces energy truce

As of now, there is a truce in the energy sector as part of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides agreed to it. Do not violate the agreement

Responding to Trump's remarks, Zelenskyy told the US news website Axios that he had been unaware of the US president's announcement of a ceasefire in the energy sector. He added that Kyiv would agree to the truce if the Russians also agreed to a ceasefire targeting the sector.

Earlier on Sunday, Zelenskyy had announced that Ukraine was ready to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries, provided that Moscow stopped its strikes on energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Trump's announcement came after he criticised Zelenskyy on Saturday over attacks targeting Russian oil refineries.

Washington temporarily lifts restrictions on Russian fuel

A day earlier, the United States had decided to temporarily lift sanctions imposed on Russian fuel, following an agreement between Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to put diesel on the US and global markets.

Trump said after his talks with Putin that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the US and global markets, with a further 500,000 tonnes to be released during November.
