US President Donald Trump reiterated that the United States exercises complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, stressing during an election rally in Arizona the need to ensure that Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon. Trump said at the rally: “We have to make sure that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump rejects NATO support and threatens Iran with a heavy strike
He added that NATO had not provided assistance to the United States, explaining that Washington did not need help in what he described as the “Iran war”. Trump had previously declared, during an election rally in Alaska, that he was running out of patience with Iran, threatening it with a heavy strike. The US president said: “Wait and see what we do to Iran.
We are going to hit it hard; wait and see what we do, because we have truly had enough of it.” Separately, Axios reported that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed, during a phone call between them last week, the possibility of launching a new and extensive military operation against Iran before the Israeli and US elections.
The outlet attributed the information to US officials and an Israeli official, as well as a fourth informed source. It said the talks between Trump and Netanyahu took place at a sensitive time ahead of the two elections in Israel and the United States. The Israeli official said Netanyahu told Trump during the call that he was concerned about Israeli intelligence.
According to the official quoted by Axios, the information indicates that Tehran is taking what he described as worrying steps to rebuild its nuclear programme.
