Clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis have resumed in several provinces, including Sana'a, Saada, Taiz, Marib, Lahj and al-Jawf, amid a military escalation focused particularly on the fronts in Taiz province. In Taiz, the Houthis attempted to cut supply lines and the road network linking the province with Aden, Lahj and the coastal areas, as part of efforts to seize new areas and impose a complete siege on the city.

Fighting continues on Taiz fronts

The Yemeni government forces’ media centre said fighting with the Houthis had continued for the fourth consecutive day on the Taiz front, particularly in the areas of al-Kadha and Bani Bakari in Jabal Habashi district, as well as on the Sama front.

The centre said government forces had made advances on the Sama front and retaken control of al-Hosn Mountain. They also repelled a Houthi attack on Han Mountain, west of Taiz.

The areas where the clashes took place have a social and tribal character that is supportive of Yemen’s internationally recognised government. They are not considered a popular stronghold of the Houthi Ansar Allah movement, adding a local and tribal dimension to the course of the fighting on those fronts.
