The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said on Wednesday that three people were killed and 36 others injured in two attacks targeting facilities at Abha and King Khalid international airports on Tuesday and Wednesday, in addition to causing material damage at both airports. In a statement, the authority said emergency teams and the relevant authorities began responding to the attacks immediately after they occurred, in line with approved procedures and plans.
Injuries and fatalities in Abha airport attack
It said the attack on Abha International Airport resulted in the deaths of two female residents, one of Moroccan nationality and the other Algerian, as well as 28 people being injured. It added that those injured at Abha airport included citizens and two residents of Bangladeshi and Filipino nationality, noting that the injuries ranged from minor to serious.
The attack targeting King Khalid International Airport, meanwhile, resulted in the death of a Sudanese resident and eight people being injured. According to the authority's statement, those injured at King Khalid airport included five citizens, two Egyptian residents and a Pakistani resident.
Their injuries also ranged from minor to serious, while all those injured were transferred immediately to hospitals to receive the necessary medical care. The authority said it was continuing to work in coordination with the security authorities to assess the damage to the facilities at both airports and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, as well as to maintain the security and safety of the Kingdom's civil aviation system.
