Recent versions of PowerPoint offer a range of tools for editing images directly within presentations, allowing users to make basic changes without transferring images to a separate application. These capabilities include removing backgrounds, compressing image files, adjusting image properties and cropping, alongside the use of AI tools.

Removing backgrounds and compressing images in PowerPoint

After inserting an image into a presentation, users can click the background-removal button, then review the selection and add other areas for deletion or restore parts they want to keep. PowerPoint also allows users to compress images to reduce the presentation file size, particularly when using a large number of images. The appropriate compression level can be selected in the image-editing settings, depending on whether the file is to be sent by email, printed or uploaded online.

Improving image clarity and cropping dimensions

The Corrections option provides settings for changing an image’s clarity and brightness and making its details sharper or softer. Users can choose from preset settings or adjust the properties manually according to the presentation’s requirements. The application also includes a tool for cropping images and changing their dimensions, either by dragging manually or selecting predefined measurements.

An image can also be cropped into the shape of one of the geometric forms available in PowerPoint, such as a circle or square.

Microsoft has integrated its Copilot AI tool into PowerPoint, providing functions that include changing image quality, adding or editing elements and generating new images within the application.
