India’s Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday 6 October 2026 that 12 crew members of the commercial tanker MT On Peace were injured after it was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman. It said 11 of those injured were Indian nationals.

New Delhi thanked the Omani authorities for the support they provided during the evacuation and their handling of the incident. India condemned the attack on the tanker, saying the continued targeting of vessels in the region was a source of deep concern. It renewed its call for an immediate halt to such attacks in the interests of peace and stability in the region.

The ministry stressed the need to end attacks on commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure, calling for maritime and trade movement through international waterways to be restored as soon as possible. The incident came amid repeated attacks on commercial vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs did not attribute responsibility for the targeting of MT On Peace to any specific party in its statement. It said only that the vessel was struck by a projectile while passing off the Omani coast, while the injured continue to receive treatment in Khasab.
