In a statement, the official spokesperson for the armed forces, Colonel Staff Maajid Al-Nazili, said the operations had resulted in the “neutralisation of 1,370 members” of the group. Al-Nazili added that the operations had also destroyed or disabled 300 vehicles, means of transport, items of equipment and pieces of military hardware, in addition to targeting a number of military positions.

He said the forces had used what he described as specialised and modern weapons during the strikes. The military spokesperson said the targeting operations formed part of the ongoing Operation Dawn of Yemen. According to his statement, the targets included observation posts, advanced command and control centres, weapons depots, supply and reinforcement points, as well as military positions belonging to the Houthis.

Objectives of Operation Dawn of Yemen and the forces’ advance

Operation Dawn of Yemen began on Monday, according to an announcement by the armed forces, with the aim of restoring state institutions, taking control of the capital, Sana’a, and ending Houthi control over it. Since the operation began, Yemeni forces have advanced northwards along the western coast under air cover and announced that they had taken control of the Bab al-Mandab area and Dhu Bab district.

The forces also announced that they had taken control of the city of Mokha, west of Taiz governorate, following what were described as fierce battles with the Houthis. They said they had established full control over the mountainous Kahboub front overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait, as part of military movements in the area.

According to the Yemeni armed forces, the operation also included the launch of what they described as a strategic offensive towards Sana’a, alongside their operations in Taiz, along the western coast and at sites near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
