The Yemeni armed forces announced on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, that they had continued their field advance for a second consecutive day on the southern front of Marib governorate as part of Operation Yemen’s Dawn, saying Houthi forces had retreated and suffered human and material losses during the fighting.

A military source told the armed forces’ media centre that army units had, during their advance, driven Houthi forces out of wide areas and several positions it described as strategic and decisive. The source identified the main positions as the Thamad, Al-Qaima and Al-Muqaylat mountain ranges, as well as Aqd Al-Qaima, Al-Rasid and the surrounding desert areas. According to the military source, the clashes left dozens of Houthi fighters dead, wounded or captured.

He added that the forces had destroyed what he described as three weapons and disabled combat vehicles, saying those aboard them had been killed or wounded. The source also said Yemeni air defences had shot down a drone they described as hostile during the operations, as clashes and military movements continued on the southern front of Marib.

The announced advance followed clashes in the area on Monday evening, when the Yemeni armed forces said they had foiled Houthi attempts to retake positions lost since the start of Operation Yemen’s Dawn.

According to the forces’ account, the attacking units were forced to retreat and flee after clashes in which they suffered losses in personnel and equipment, before the Yemeni forces continued their advance the following day towards new positions in the area.
