Oil prices held near their highest level in more than a week today, with Brent crude futures at $87.81 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate at $82.20, while spot gold rose 0.8% to $4,376.56 an ounce, its highest level in nine weeks.
Oil steadies after gains of more than 5%
Oil prices were supported by geopolitical factors as both crude benchmarks rose more than 5% yesterday to their highest levels since July 31.
Gold hits nine-week high
Gold prices rose on strong buying momentum as investors awaited U.S. inflation data that could provide clues about the path of interest rates.
Alongside the rise in spot gold, U.S. gold futures gained 0.5% to $4,419.70.
