The Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus sentenced Bashar al-Assad and a number of senior officials of the ousted Syrian regime to death after convicting them of murder, torture and crimes against humanity. It issued its ruling against Atef Najib in his presence and against the others in absentia.

Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Marwan al-Halabi announced the signing of a framework agreement between Syria and Turkey to strengthen university cooperation, exchange expertise and develop scientific research, quality and accreditation.
