Al-Fergani Publishing has released the Arabic edition of The Young Maronite by Alessandro Spina, translated by Muawiya Abdel Majid. The novel revisits the transformations of Benghazi and Libyan society during the Ottoman period and Italian colonial rule, using a narrative interwoven with historical documents, press material and dialogues whose translation into Arabic required extensive linguistic and documentary research.

Mustafa Al-Majdoub announced his arrival in Tripoli and the start of his duties as head of what he calls a “unified government”, calling on the governments of Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and Osama Hamad to hand over power peacefully. He also proposed a timetable for a constitutional referendum and elections, amid support from social groups and silence from the existing authorities over his move.

Disputes have intensified inside Libya’s House of Representatives after 86 MPs said they were barred from entering its Benghazi headquarters to hold a reform session, while the House presidency denied that any official session had been scheduled. The dispute extends to the quorum, authority to call meetings, amendments to the rules of procedure and leadership elections, amid concerns about its impact on the electoral process and the unification of state institutions.

Medical and allied health staff in Libya have continued a strike that began on 7 September, demanding health insurance, allowances and improved professional rights, while the Ministry of Health says shortages of doctors and nurses are disrupting equipped facilities and departments amid wide disparities between approved posts and registered workers and the absence of a comprehensive national database.

The Czech author Barbora Klarova’s collection The Amazing Engineer’s Adventures has been published in Arabic in seven stories that blend fantasy with technology and give machines feelings and dreams. Dar al-Zawi in Tripoli undertook publication of the work, which received approval from Libya’s Ministry of Culture and paved the way for the translation of more Czech children’s literature.

Libya’s 2024–2025 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey detected Escherichia coli in drinking water used by 46.4% of people in surveyed households, with wide variations between regions. The findings indicate the scale of potential exposure but do not identify the source of contamination or the stage at which the bacteria entered the water.

Satellite imagery and intelligence analyses detected the arrival of three Russian ships at Tobruk port, amid Italian and US aerial monitoring of their movements in the Mediterranean. The data indicates that the convoy transported trucks, armoured personnel carriers and mine-resistant vehicles to the port controlled by Khalifa Haftar’s forces.
